Summertime hazards for motorcyclists

On Behalf of | Jun 9, 2024 | Injuries

The summer months are a time when motorcyclists are common sights on the roadways. One of the biggest hazards for them is other motorists who aren’t paying attention to what’s going on around them. Those motorists can slam into the motorcycle, but they aren’t the only hazard that motorcyclists face during the summer months.

A motorcyclist who’s involved in a crash can suffer a host of injuries, some of which are catastrophic. Because of the seriousness of these incidents, everyone should know a bit about the summertime hazards that can lead to devastating injuries for people on motorcycles.

Grass clippings

Grass clippings are often as slick as ice, especially when they’re damp. This can make a motorcyclist lose control of the motorcycle, which can lead to a crash. It’s critical that anyone who’s doing yardwork only blows the grass clippings away from the road to prevent these tragic events.

Wildlife

Wildlife is another problem for motorcyclists during the summer months. Animals don’t obey the rules of the road and they don’t understand the dangers of crossing in front of vehicles. Motorcyclists are most at risk of encountering wildlife from dusk until dawn because this is a time when many animals, such as deer, are moving about.

Anytime a motorcycle is struck by another vehicle, the people on the motorcycle can suffer catastrophic injuries that require long-term medical care. This can be costly, so they may choose to seek compensation from the negligent individual who contributed to the crash. This can help them to recover the financial damages they’re having to deal with because of the crash.
